What is Juvederm®?
Juvederm® is an FDA approved injectable medication that fills lines and wrinkles; re-contours, rejuvenates, volumizes and restores the face; and gives a more youthful appearance to other areas of the body, such as the hands. Laser and Dermatologic Surgery Center knows that volume loss is a major contributor to an aged appearance. Using a small needle, our St Louis doctors inject the filler into each area that requires treatment.
How it works:
Juvederm® is made from hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule that exists naturally in the skin. It binds water, thereby providing support, volume, and hydration to the skin to give you the best results.

Side effects of Juvederm® are typically minor and temporary, but include:
- Bruising (taking aspirin or similar medications increases this risk)
- Pain (to reduce discomfort, an anesthetic cream is typically applied to the treatment area, and there is anesthetic mixed in the filler material as well)
- Bumps (Juverderm® filler substances can infrequently cause bumps that may persist for a few weeks to several months)
- Vascular occlusion (though unlikely, it is possible for the needle to be placed through a blood vessel, which could impair circulation to nearby sites)
Downtime after Juverderm®:
There is no downtime after treatment, although there may be bruising and swelling. Results generally last an average 3-6 months in most patients.
When will I see results from a Juvederm® treatment?
Improvement can be seen immediately after treatment, but can take two weeks for full effect to be achieved.
What makes Juvederm® different from other dermal fillers?

How long does Juvederm® treatment last?
Juvederm® treatment results vary but can last up to 12 months.
Can people with all different skin tones/colors be treated with Juvederm®?
Juvederm® can be injected into all skin types.
Where is Juverderm® most commonly used?
Juvederm® treatment can be used in the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and the lips.
