There are many cosmetic and surgical options available to address fine lines and wrinkles, but because knowledge is power, it may be helpful to have some simple information about them before you decide on one of our various treatment options…because sooner or later everyone will have fine lines and wrinkles. They are impossible to avoid as we age.

facial rejuvenation• The beginning of a wrinkle is the significant reduction in the levels of collagen and elastin which is produced by your skin. These naturally occurring proteins are responsible for supporting your skin. Unfortunately, they decrease with age.
• With the passage of time, the other supporting structures of your skin, the ligaments, muscles and bones, weaken, making your skin loose and prone to wrinkling and sagging.
• The ultraviolet radiation from years of cumulative exposure to the sun further adds to the formation of lines and wrinkles.
• Other factors that can influence the creation of facial lines and wrinkles are genetics, fat loss, dry climates, frequent muscle contractions and even nutritional deficiencies.

Lines are finer than wrinkles and are a result of repeated facial expressions such as smiling, frowning or squinting. Fine lines do not usually form in younger people because they still have sufficient amounts of collagen and elastin to help their skin snap back into place.
Wrinkles are thicker, deeper and are much more noticeable than lines. Often, they are a result of long periods of unprotected sun exposure. It’s very common for a fine line to eventually turn into a deep wrinkle.
