Radiesse® St. Louis, MO

What is Radiesse®?

Radiesse® is an FDA approved product that re-contours, rejuvenates, volumizes and restores the face. Nasolabial folds, depressed scars, chin grooves, and cheek hollows can all be enhanced. It can also be used in other areas of the body, such as the hands. Using a small needle, the dermal filler is injected into that skin that requires treatment.

How it works:

Radiesse® contains microspheres of calcium hydroxyapatite (calcium and phosphate ions) that are combined with a hydrogel. The body recognizes the material as safe since the primary components are present in the body naturally. Radiesse will remain soft and pliable, taking on the characteristics of the surrounding tissue.

Side Effects:

  • Bruising. Taking herbals, aspirin or similar medications increases this risk.
  • Redness/swelling.
  • Pain. To reduce discomfort, an anesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area. In addition, there is anesthetic mixed in with the Radiesse.
  • Bumps. Radiesse can infrequently cause bumps that resolve within several months.
  • Vascular occlusion. Though unlikely, it is possible for the needle to be placed through a blood vessel, which could impair circulation to nearby sites.

Downtime:

Normal activites can be resumed immediately after treatment. Slight discomfort after the procedure can be controlled with ice. There is mild swelling, which disappears in 24 to 36 hours. Minimal bruising may occur, but can be covered with makeup.

When will I see results from a Radiesse® treatment?

Improvement can be seen immediately, but can take two weeks for full effect, which can last a year or longer. It can be used alone or with other procedures such as laser rejuvenation, chemical peels and botulinum neuromodulators (i.e. Botox®) to enhance these results.
